I am writing this recommendation because it is important to me that more patients and families get to know Dr. Mani Bracha from Hadassah. We are from the Hefer Valley area, and we came to him following a recommendation from an important rabbi we consulted with (I won't mention his name even though he is well known in the field, because I did not ask his permission to do so). We did not know Dr. Bracha before, and today we understand how significant it was for my father's treatment that we reached him. Father was diagnosed with melanoma on the bridge of the nose and underwent excision via MOHS surgery. After the surgery there was significant difficulty in assessing the surgical margins and the true depth of the tumor's penetration. We came to Dr. Bracha very frightened, with many question marks. The first thing he did was help us understand the picture and bring order to it for us. Amid all the fear, this was very important to us. In his examination, Dr. Bracha raised a suspicion that a component of the tumor remained in the area, or that it had recurred quickly. He requested a repeat pathology review at Hadassah by a pathologist who specializes in this field, and later came back to us with the conclusions of the multidisciplinary team discussion. We felt that my father's case was examined thoroughly, and that behind the recommendation there was both impressively personal knowledge and the shared thinking of a broad team. His recommendation was to perform an additional wide excision, a sentinel lymph node biopsy, and reconstruction of the nasal bridge, all in the same surgery. The sentinel lymph node was ultimately located beneath the jaw. The fact that he was responsible for all components of the surgery, from the excision through the lymph node sampling to the reconstruction, reassured us greatly. We were impressed by his ability to address all the parts of such a complex surgery without losing sight of the overall picture. And here is the thing that is most important for me to tell: before we came to him, the recommendation we had received was for a wide excision only, without a sentinel lymph node biopsy. The PET scan showed no metastases, but in the lymph node that Dr. Bracha sampled, a small amount of melanoma cells was found. This information turned out to be critical for the continuation of treatment. As a result, the melanoma oncology team at Hadassah recommended immunotherapy treatment for my father, which he is receiving today. It is difficult for us to think that this finding could have remained unknown. For us, the decision to sample the lymph node was not just another detail of the surgery - it truly changed the course of my father's treatment. This is also what impressed us especially about Dr. Bracha. His deep understanding of melanoma itself, and not only the technical side of the surgery. In our case, we saw just how important this understanding and his judgment were in practice. And alongside all this, the result of the surgery was far beyond what we had hoped for cosmetically. When it comes to an additional excision and reconstruction on the bridge of the nose, we were also very worried about how it would look. Today you can hardly tell that my father had surgery there. The recovery was very good, and there were no complications, despite my father's age. During a difficult period, this was another great relief. We recommend Dr. Mani Bracha wholeheartedly, and especially to anyone who needs melanoma surgery in a complex case. We met a doctor with deep knowledge, impressive surgical skill, and an attitude that gave us confidence at a moment when we needed it greatly. For us, the journey from the Hefer Valley to the clinic in Ramat Gan and later to Hadassah was worth every trip. Thank you so much, Dr. Bracha, for treating my father and for the way you accompanied us.
