When I was told that I had mucosal melanoma in the small intestine, I understood fairly quickly that this was not an ordinary case. This is a very rare tumor, and in such a situation you're not just looking for a good surgeon – you want an oncological surgeon who understands melanoma, understands oncological treatment, and knows how to connect all the pieces of the picture. This is how I came to Dr. Meni Bracha at Hadassah Ein Kerem. Already from the first meeting I felt that I was in the right place. Dr. Bracha had deep knowledge of the disease and the treatment options, went through my case with me in an organized manner, and explained to me not only what could be operated on, but also when it would be right to operate and what the place of surgery is within the overall oncological treatment. In my case I received neoadjuvant treatment before the surgery, and fortunately there was a good response to the treatment. One of the things that impressed me greatly was that Dr. Bracha's thinking was not that of a surgeon who only looks at the surgical procedure. He looked at the entire course of the disease, at the response to treatment, and at the way in which the surgery could be timed and performed in the best and most precise manner. In the end, he performed the surgery using a laparoscopic approach. Despite all the fears I had before an oncological surgery in the intestine, the surgery went simply amazingly and without any complications. The recovery was excellent, and in retrospect it's hard for me to describe how much better the actual experience was compared to what I imagined when I first heard the diagnosis. But in my view, what distinguishes Dr. Meni Bracha is not only his surgical ability. I felt that I was facing a doctor who thinks like both an oncologist and a surgeon at the same time – who understands melanoma deeply, knows how to deal with rare tumors and unusual cases, and makes decisions based on a broad perspective and not only on the question of whether it is technically possible to perform surgery. Alongside all this, he is a pleasant, patient, accessible person who is very down to earth. At every stage I knew what was happening and why, I could ask anything and receive a real and clear answer, and I had the feeling that he truly took responsibility for the case and not just for the surgery itself. After what I went through, if someone told me they had been diagnosed with a complex or rare melanoma, mucosal melanoma, a tumor of the small intestine, or a case where a decision needs to be made on how to combine oncological treatment with surgery, I would tell them without hesitation to turn to Dr. Meni Bracha. I happened to research the field of melanoma treatment in Israel extensively in recent months, and I can say from my personal experience that Dr. Bracha is a leader in his field, and not only on a national level. I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to share my personal experience, the journey we went through, and especially my perspective on something I never imagined would come my way.
