The professor determined there was an abnormal brain structure and presented us with numerous dire predictions about developmental delays and illnesses. He scheduled us for another meeting at the hospital, during which he announced the situation was even more severe and recommended terminating the pregnancy. He even began suggesting names of rabbis from different denominations who could 'approve' the procedure and scheduled us for an urgent MRI examination in the middle of the night at the hospital. Upon arriving at the unit again, we surprisingly encountered Dr. Erez in the unit's corridor, almost miraculously. We approached him, and he, who knew us from previous screenings, received us with the sensitivity and humanity that so characterize him, opening both his office door and his heart to us. The examination began, the professor stood beside us and continued to present his position, but amidst all the noise and turmoil, Dr. Erez looked in our eyes, examined personally, and conveyed calmness to us. With a look, a nod, and a hint of a smile, he indicated that everything appeared normal. And in the minutes that followed, with rare courage and genuine intellectual independence, he dismissed each of the professor's diagnoses one by one. He was the only physician who told us clearly, directly, and responsibly that the fetus was healthy. Weeks of crying, sleepless nights, endless fears... all dissolved in the face of Dr. Erez's confident and reassuring voice. In retrospect, we understand that he not only saved us from the tragic course of pregnancy termination but also restored our hope, peace, and trust in medicine that encompasses not just knowledge, but also heart.
