But Dr. Sapir's arrogant and irresponsible diagnosis is, in my view, a professional and moral failure of a doctor who has lost attentiveness and touch with the needs of the patients who pay him with their hard-earned money. How can a doctor, however professional and self-confident he may be, ignore a significant hearing problem and claim that it has no bearing on the diagnosis of communicative abilities? How is it possible that even if the doctor did identify a potential for a communication problem beyond the hearing issue, he did not qualify his words and present them within the broader context of the child's development, the resolution of the fluid issue, and the countless factors that better professionals presented to us later when we turned to them in distress?
This was the worst experience with a healthcare provider or doctor that I have encountered in my life. Dr. Sapir has an impressive resume, but from my personal experience with him, I can say that he has lost touch with the basic role of a doctor, especially one who works with young children.
