Description

I trained as an interventional cardiologist co-specialising in cardiac imaging namely cardiac CT (Level 2, US board certified) and cardiac MRI (Level 3, SCMR, USA). This fuelled my clinical interest in cardiac risk stratification and cardiac prevention. My clinical interests include intracoronary physiology (including INOCA) and imaging in both the assessment and treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) as well as the detection of vulnerable plaque. Having treated patients with complex CAD over the last 20 years, my priority now lies in the PREVENTION of heart attacks and stoke by identifying patients at an earlier age and treating their risk factors BEFORE the onset ot complications from cardiovascular diseases (CVD).The pandemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes compounded by high blood pressure, raised cholesterol and triglycerides as well as genetics are now causing a rebound increase in death rates from CVD. Research studies continue to demonstrate that robust lifestyle interventions as well as effective, earlier treatment of risk factors can prevent up to 90% of cases of CVD. Delaying such therapies directly contributes to 'residual risk' and a higher chance of dying at an earlier age from CVD. I am particularly interested in treating patients with a strong family history of premature CAD and in the management of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which is a very common condition affecting men and women from as early as 40 years and can be reversed by sensible nutrition often with concomitant pharmacotherapies such as Saxenda. The satisfaction of treating patients presenting with an acute heart attack, at any hour of the day is clearly huge but PREVENTION will always be better than the cure and it is never too early to start a formal cardiovascular prevention strategy to significantly alter the trajectory and burden of CVD.

''I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care I received from Dr Paul. Having recently undergone a procedure to insert a stent in my heart (Ramus artery), I was understandably anxious, but Dr Paul put me at ease every step of the way. From the initial consultation to the post-procedure follow-ups, Dr Paul demonstrated unparalleled expertise, professionalism, and genuine compassion. He made sure that the procedure was funded by my medical aid and he provided a thorough explanation of the procedure. I was also conscious throughout the procedure while I watched him place the stent. Thanks to Dr Paul's skillful hands and dedication to patient care, the procedure went by without any complications. I highly recommend Dr Paul to anyone seeking top-notch cardiac care, especially if you want preventative cardiac care as well. Thank you, Dr Paul for your outstanding commitment to healing your patients.
